Hi everyone, my name is DoDo. I live and work in Warwickshire, although I’m a full blooded Scot. I  started belly dancing 11 years ago after a visit to a local Turkish restaurant.  Never having seen a belly dancer before and thought ‘I want to do that!’.  I  took classes locally but eventually had to travel further afield to satisfy my  appetite for all things belly dance.   Recently I have finished the JWAAD Teacher Training Diploma course.  I am the only JWAAD trained teacher in Warwickshire.  This is a  very comprehensive belly dance teacher training course and the only one recognised in the UK.  It covers dance technique, teaching methods, health & safety, history & culture and understanding of the music to name a few subjects.  I have also studied and continue to study with many teachers of bellydance from around the world.

Having  danced at parties, charity events, restaurants, weddings and many more events either on my own or with different troupes, I now have my  own group, Oasis.

The variation in belly dance crosses all borders fusing together different styles, while also keeping the traditional styles true.  Some like the slow sensuous Egyptian dance or the folk saidi, khalegi, gawhaze dance of the  desert and gulf , the fast Turkish style or the precise rhythmic beats of  tribal.  You can also introduce different props into certain dance styles; veils, sticks, swords, wings and candles and even glasses!!  Come along to a class to learn the basics then go wherever the path takes you.

At the end of the year the classes get together for our annual  Hafla (belly dance party) where you can see other dancers from around the UK, groups and soloists, and  you get the chance show off what you have learned in class.

Belly dance has also taken me to all corners of Britain in search of more knowledge meeting many lovely people and making good friends on the journey.

It is a lovely thing to learn.  It helps get you in tune with your body and builds a confidence that you may not have thought possible.  Any age and dress size are very welcome to attend classes.  And, If you have the inclination, you can dress up in all sorts of glitter and sparkle.
